Personal Interests
I've had a lifelong passion for photography that I decided to make official in 2016 when I enrolled in the newly created Schoolcraft College Center for Photography certificate program. Two and half years later, I was the fifth person to complete the program. The excellent instructors helped inspire me further and helped me advance my skills to launch my photography in its current form. I recommend the Schoolcraft College to anyone looking for inspiring photographers who are encouraging, supportive, and exceptional teachers. I have been fortunate to have two solo exhibits of my photographs in recent years, and I'm currently focusing on portrait photography. I was recently named a co-director for the Novi Photography Club, and I serve on the Novi Cultural Arts Advisory Board.
I've been lucky to find professional opportunities throughout my life, especially in musical theatre pit orchestras and twice on stage. Pictured below is my flute resting on the piano during intermission for Sondheim on Sondheim at Stagecrafters' 2nd Stage. My favorite place is in the middle of an ensemble surrounded by great musicians and performers. I recently marked 50 years as a flutist.
I have a passion for travel, art, movies, musical theatre, and the architecture of cities. When home for extended periods, sewing is something I do for love. I call alterations "editing" the dress. I love to let the fabric tell me what to do. I'm an avid reader of fiction with favorites including Middlesex, How Green was My Valley, The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, Water for Elephants, American Pastoral, Cold Mountain, The Kite Runner, Cutting for Stone, all of Louise Erdrich, all of Chaim Potok, especially The Gift of Asher Lev. Favorite movie of all time: Cinema Paradiso.
